55% OF INDIANS END UP GETTING LESS THAN SIR HRS OF UNINTERRUPTED SLEEP



 Sleep cycle goes for a toss

  • 55% Indians surveyed shared that they are getting less than sir hours of uninterrupted sleep

  • 28% said their sleep deteriorated post the covid -19 pandemic.
  •  21% Indians surveyed are getting less than four hours of uninterrupted sleep each night.
  • 10% more people are getting less than six hours of uninterrupted sleep an average over last year

When was the last time you had eight hours of uninterrupted sleep without any distraction? Have your sleep patterns gone for a toss since the COVID - 19 pandemic hot us? To find out the current sleeping patterns of Indians, Local Circles, a local social network community, conducted a national study on 'How India sleeps' recently. The study received over 39,000 responses from 309 districts across the country and found out that the Indians' sleep patterns have deteriorated in the last 12 months and most of us are getting less adequate sleep since last year.


The community social media platforms had conducted a survey on the same in 2022 as well. "To understand if some of those sleep disruptions induced by COVID were temporary or permanent in nature and to find out how Indians are sleeping post three years of the pandemic, we conducted a nation - wide study", mentions the survey. 

Pandemic-Induced sleep changes 

  • 59% of the 12,700 responses said their sleep patterns is the same as pre-pandemic days.
  • 7% Indicated sleep pattern improved due to work from home.
  • 28% of those surveyed admitted that their sleep patterns deteriorated post the pandemic.
  • 6% of respondents did not give a clear response.

Calls and messages caused sleep interruptions 

  • 61% of the 13,387 respondents said that the need to use the washroom once or more during sleep time disrupted their sleep.
  • 27% said going late to bed and scheduled/ household activity in the early morning hours disrupted sleep. 
  • 24% attributed their sleep interruption to factors like mosquitoes, external sounds 
  • 20% shared that they have a medical condition like sleep apnea 
  • 10% admitted that disruption was due to uncomfortable bed/ mattress
  • 10% said having other interruptions in their sleep.
  • 12% hinted at children and parents related interruption
