Making India 5G Ready

 Around 89% smartphone users plan to upgrade to 5G, out of which over half the users plan to switch to the next-generation network as soon  as it is available in their area, even if that means changing providers, according to a survey done by seattle-based network intelligence provider, Ookla. The auction of 5G spectrum ended a week ago services are expected to be rolled out from later this month. 


Of those who intend to upgrade to 5G 

  • 48% Would change operators if needed to upgrade to 5G.

  • 14% Will upgrade after getting a 5G-enabled handset.

    Usage of 5G

  • 70% Would consume more video.

  • 68% Would boos their gaming.

    Of the respondents who said they won't upgrade to 5G

  • 25% Won't upgrade because tariff may be too high.
  • 23% Did not have 5G compatible smartphone.
  •  24% Said lack of knowledge about 5G is an issue.
  • Only 2% stated that they don't intend to upgrade to 5G

    Expectation from a better network


  • 42% Want faster speeds.
  • 34% Wanted a more reliable mobile internet connection
  • Only 1.4% of respondents are satisfied with the existing network performance.
