Around 89% smartphone users plan to upgrade to 5G, out of which over half the users plan to switch to the next-generation network as soon as it is available in their area, even if that means changing providers, according to a survey done by seattle-based network intelligence provider, Ookla. The auction of 5G spectrum ended a week ago services are expected to be rolled out from later this month.
Of those who intend to upgrade to 5G
- 48% Would change operators if needed to upgrade to 5G.
- 14% Will upgrade after getting a 5G-enabled handset.
Usage of 5G - 70% Would consume more video.
- 68% Would boos their gaming.
Of the respondents who said they won't upgrade to 5G - 25% Won't upgrade because tariff may be too high.
- 23% Did not have 5G compatible smartphone.
- 24% Said lack of knowledge about 5G is an issue.
- Only 2% stated that they don't intend to upgrade to 5G
Expectation from a better network - 42% Want faster speeds.
- 34% Wanted a more reliable mobile internet connection
- Only 1.4% of respondents are satisfied with the existing network performance.
